Bronkhorstspruit
General Information
The small town of Bronkhorstspruit is situated along the N4 highway toward Withbank, just 50km east of Pretoria on the border between the provinces of Gauteng and Mpumalanga. Bronkhorstspruit officially became a town in June 1897, named by locals after the nearby Bronkhorstspruit River.
One of the main attractions in Bronkhorstspruit is the Nan Hua Temple (南華寺) the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere, located in the Cultura Park suburb of Bronkhorstspruit.
The temple was founded in 1992, its grounds cover 600 acres and serves as the African headquarters of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order who are very active in the community, running charity and outreach programmes. The temple has a guest house and has opened branches around South Africa.
